| Subject: [BlackTresses] Re: braids and perm | ||
| I didn't have a problem growing my perm out with braids. I had always kept my permed hair cut short though so maybe that made it easier. Anyhoo... Make sure you find a competent braider, one who will listen to your needs. You know when hair it too tight. Speak up. Don't keep braid styles longer than 2 months to avoid hair from locing. Don't use cheap hair, Kankelon being the preferred hair (I got my jumbo bags for $2.99) Cheap hair cuts the braider's fingers and can cut hair shaft to. Keep braids clean and scalp moisturized (yes you can wash your own braids). When taking braids out wet them first (in shower or with spray bottle) so you're not ripping out hair. After you've taken braids out and you are inbetween braid styles trim an inch or two of permed hair off. I did that for almost 2 years and it worked fine for me. I got to know my hair and I could tell the permed ends from the natural easily. By the time I found 2 strand twists the perm was just about gone. To shampoo braid extensions, I used shampoo and water in a heavy duty spray bottle. Thinned the shampoo enough to get through the extension hair to my hair. Have to rinse shampoo out VERY thoroughly or your scalp will itch like crazy. Hope this helps EbbyOwl | ||
